Recycle Day in Chamblee

WHY is Keep Chamblee Beautiful coordinating this?

Because not everyone in Chamblee and Brookhaven has access to weekly curbside recycling.

Because the permanent CHaRM facility, which operates in Southeast Atlanta, has diverted over 250,000 tons of bulky and hard-to-recycle materials from landfills in only four years!  Peggy Whitlow Ratcliffe, Live Thrive Atlanta’s founder and executive director, hopes to “offer many of these same opportunities to northern areas of the city, so we’re kicking off these monthly collections in easy-to-access Chamblee/Brookhaven.  Our goal is to have a permanent home for CHaRM on the north side to complement our southside location.”

Because recycling items, especially electronics, cuts down on the energy and the natural resources it takes to create these things from scratch.  Many of the basic chemical elements that are used in electronics are easy to reuse. Recycling an old computer, for example, means that less virgin copper is needed to build a new computer. This means fewer copper mines need to be built and, in turn, the beauty of the landscape is preserved and endangered animals’ habitat isn’t lost.  According to CHaRM Board member, Jesse Miers, “It’s a small effort that we can take now that will preserve our earth for the future generations.”

Georgia is #2 in the Country

According to georgiarecycles.org, the State of Georgia is the second highest recycling state in the country. Read more about Recycling Economics.

All the materials you bring are not going to waste! Read what happens to your waste on the CHaRM website.
